Google is getting more serious about streaming devices with its new TV Streamer. Ditching the Chromecast's dongle form factor, the TV Streamer is more like an Apple TV or a Hubbl - a set-top box designed to sit under (or beside your TV) rather than be plugged in behind it.
It still runs the same software as the Chromecast with Google TV, but is said to be 20% faster. Google has upped storage to 32GB, and there's also an Ethernet port and support for Thread and Matter.
The Google TV Streamer will be available in Australia this week, from retailers including JB Hi-Fi (who already has it on its website) and Harvey Norman. Officeworks will have it next week. Alternatively, you'll be able to order it online directly from the Google Store.
You'll pay $159 for the Google TV Streamer in Australia.
Google is discontinuing the Chromecast family, so existing devices are only available while supplies last.
