Foxtel has refreshed its offer in the entertainment game with the brand new Hubbl entertainment platform and Hubbl Glass TV.

What is Hubbl TV?

Hubbl logo

Hubbl is a lot of things. As for its function, it can be described as an "all-in-one" entertainment platform bringing together your streaming apps and free-to-air TV apps together.

In terms of form, Hubbl is a standalone set-top box that can be used with any compatible TV. However, it's also a brand-new TV called Hubbl Glass that comes in two sizes and five colour ways. The Hubbl Glass comes with 4K, Dolby Vision and HDR 10 support, voice control and six integrated speakers.

Hubbl is also the new name of Streamotion; the company that is officially behind streamers Binge, Kayo and Flash.

How much does Hubbl cost in Australia?

Here's how much the three Hubbl products cost:

Hubbl products
Name Type Colour Price
Hubbl Set-top box Black $99
Hubbl Glass (55-inches) All-in-one TV Black, Blue, Green, Pink and White $1,395
Hubbl Glass (65-inches) All-in-one TV Black, Blue, Green, Pink and White $1,595

Keep in mind: You can either choose the Hubbl set-top box to work with a compatible TV or an all-in one Hubbl Glass. You don't need to purchase both the box and the Hubbl Glass.

You'll need to pay for any subscriptions on top of that to access streaming content but you'll be able to save up to $15 on three or more of them per month by bundling them through Hubbl.

  • Save $5 with three services
  • Save $10 with four services
  • Save $15 with five services

Eligible apps include Netflix, Binge, Kayo Sports, Flash, and Lifestyle. You'll only get the discount for 36 months from the date of issue.

There's no subscription fee to use Hubbl itself, however.

Hubbl's Netflix and Kayo Sports bundle

When customers are purchasing a new Hubbl Hub they have the option of also signing up for Hubbl's Netflix and Kayo Sports bundle offer. There are three options:

  • Kayo One + Netflix Standard with Ads for $25 per month for 12 months (saving $7.99 per month for 12 months)
  • Kayo One + Netflix Standard for $36 per month for 12 months (saving $7.99 per month for 12 months)
  • Kayo Basic + Netflix Premium for $45 per month for 12 months (saving $15.99 per month for 12 months)

If you take up the bundle, Netflix and Kayo Sports won't count towards your eligible services for stack and save. We've crunched the numbers and its better to sign up for the five eligible services as normal if you want them all, as this will maximise the savings. However, if these are the only two streaming apps you'll use out of those eligible for stack and save this is the better offer.

Hubbl review: Not quite a Chromecast killer

"The ads hype it up as 'the world’s best user interface' for streaming, but really, Hubbl is just a worse version of Chromecast, Apple TV, and all its other competitors."

Georgia Dixon, Managing Editor Safewise Australia

Our verdict

Is Hubbl worth it?

One of Hubbl's key value propositions is stack and save. With the stack and save discount expiring after 36 months it can only really be considered a way to save in the mid-term. If you were to take advantage of the five eligible apps to get the full discount you'd basically recover the full cost of the $99 set-top box after seven months and then be getting a total credit of $435 over the remaining period.

For comparison, Optus' SubHub (while not a set top box) has a similar offer that lets you bundle three or more eligible services and save up to 10% off the total.  However, SubHub has no time limit on when those discounts end. It also has eligible apps beyond streaming services with options such as Kindle Unlimited, fitness platform Sweat and Microsoft 365. One big con for SubHub is your access is dependent on being signed up for an eligible Optus phone or internet plan.

Hubbl Glass TV Review: An unusually interesting TV

"The Hubbl Glass is a good TV for a fair price, paired with a nicer-than-usual design. The core software experience can be a mixed bag, however."

Alex Choros, Managing Editor

Where can I get Hubbl?

Customers can order Hubbl products directly through the website. They are also be available at Australian retailers JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman. The Hubbl Glass TV is exclusive to Harvey Norman.

What are the alternatives to Hubbl in Australia?

Hubbl is fairly unique in the Australian pay TV space. In terms of saving on streaming through a bundle there's Optus' SubHub. SubHub lets you bundle three or more eligible services together and save up to 10% off the total.

As far as set top boxes go Hubbl is similar to streaming devices like Apple TV, Google Chromecast and the Amazon Fire TV Cube which can all turn your "dumb TV' smart.

If you already have a smart TV or a set-top box, you don't need a Hubbl set-top box to access all your favourite streaming apps. Here are the prices for various streaming apps available in Australia:
