Vodafone MVNOs TPG and iiNet now have eSIM support, allowing new customers to sign up for a mobile plan without the need for a physical SIM card.
For those unfamiliar with the term, eSIM - an electronic SIM or embedded SIM - is a rewritable SIM card that’s built into a cellular device like a smartphone, tablet, or smartwatch. There's no need to pop open a slot or pry off a case to put in a SIM; an eSIM never leaves your phone.
Existing TPG and iiNet mobile customers can swap to eSIM via their account management portal. This functionality can be found under the eSIM Swap sub-menu. The eSIM Swap option can also be used to move an eSIM from one phone to another.
New customers can simply pick from eSIM when signing up to a plan. Here are TPG's mobile plans:
And here are iiNet's:
TPG and iiNet were the last major Vodafone-powered providers that didn't offer eSIM. Vodafone, Lebara, felix mobile, and Kogan Mobile all already support eSIM.
eSIM device support is now fairly ubiquitous across flagship phones. It's been standard in the Phone family since the iPhone XS, and in the Galaxy family since the Galaxy S20. We still haven't seen many cheaper phones with eSIM support, however, with the Pixel A-series devices acting as the key exception.
