If it feels like Optus just raised its prices, you're not mistaken. Existing customers on Optus' Choice, ChoicePlus and Business Mobile Plus plans will see price increases from June 4 2025. New customers signing up for an Optus postpaid plan will already pay the new prices.
This comes just one month since Optus upped the monthly costs across its prepaid plans and less than a year since its last hiked prices on its SIM-only plans.
Here are the current prices and inclusions across Optus' SIM-only range:
To recount Optus' most recent pricing changes, in August 2024, its SIM-only plans rose by $3 to $6 per month, depending on the plan. Its 28-day prepaid plans also became more expensive last month by $4 per month.
Now, less than a year later, Optus plans to inflate bills by a further $2 to $6 per month, depending on the plan.
Check out the table below for a detailed outline of Optus' last three price hikes and their price and data fluctuations:
Plan name | Price and data in August 2024 | Price and data in April 2025 | Price and data from June 2025 |
---|---|---|---|
Small Choice Plus Plan | $49 per month with 30GB | $52 per month with 50GB | $55 per month with 50GB |
Medium Choice Plus Plan | $59 per month with 45GB | $62 per month with 180GB | $65 per month with 200GB |
Large Choice Plus Plan | $69 per month with 220GB | $82 per month with 360GB | $85 per month with 400GB |
Extra Large Choice Plus Plan | $89 per month with 360GB | Discontinued | Discontinued |
Promo plan | - | $79 per month for 360GB | $69 per month for the first 12 months with 360GB. Price rises to $79 per month thereafter. Bonus value offer ends July 6, 2025 |
As outlined in the table above, the 'Yes' telco is also nodding its head to more data increases. Data allowances will increase from 20GB to 40GB per month, depending on the plan. While this sounds great on paper, the average customer uses only 16GB per month. So even on Optus' Small Choice Plus plan, you'll be paying more per month for three times the amount of data that you may never use.
The new price of Optus' Small Optus Choice Plus Plan, $55 per month, is still cheaper than Telstra's 50GB-equivalent plan, which will set you back $65 per month. However, Vodafone's cheapest plan starts at just $39 per month for the first 12 months then $49 thereafter.
Even at its post-promo price, Vodafone is still the more affordable option. Plus with Vodafone's Double Data offering, customers will receive 100GB of data instead of the usual 50GB. As if you needed any more reasons to love Vodafone right now, its 4G coverage numbers were recently updated to 98.4%, placing it just 0.1% behind Optus.
For those wanting to stick to one of the Big 3 telcos, here's how Optus' SIM-only plans compare to Telstra and Vodafone's offerings:
But if you would prefer to stick with the Optus network, here are a selection of plans from Optus MVNOs that are much more affordable and offer at least 20GB of data:
