Apple today launched a new Invite app for iPhone, which as the name suggests, is designed to manage invitations for events. The app will be immediately familiar to anyone who's created an event with Facebook, for example, but is tied to Apple Accounts, rather than a Meta login.
On top of standard features like having a date and location, the Invite app allows for shared photo albums and shared Apple Music playlists. It will also pull the forecast and provider directions via Apple Maps. The event organiser can send notes to guests, but there's no "message board" functionality for discussions in the invite itself.
Invites is only available as an app on iOS, but invites can be sent to anyone via phone number, email, or a link. The invite is then accessed through the web for anyone using an Android phone or a computer. An iCloud Plus subscription is required to create events, and all attendees need an Apple Account to view the invite.
iCloud Plus starts at $1.49 per month for a plan with 50GB storage. iCloud Plus is also included as part of all Apple One bundles.
Rather than being a part of an iOS update, Invites was launched as a standalone app through the App Store. This is pretty unusual for Apple, which normally launches new apps through its regular software updates. Invites does require iOS 18 as a minimum, however.
