If you're an ALDI fan, you'll already know that the supermarket giant is a haven for great deals. You can get a whole lot more than just groceries at ALDI, you can even get a phone plan.
ALDI Mobile plans offer great data-for-dollar value, plus Telstra network coverage, data rollover and international call inclusions. But while the plans are affordable, they're still not best in class. In this guide, we'll take a look at how ALDI mobile plans compare on:
- ALDI Mobile price
- ALDI Mobile coverage
- ALDI Mobile international roaming
- ALDI Mobile customer service
ALDI Mobile prices compared
Here’s how ALDI plans compare to other plans on the Telstra network. We've taken a look at plans in our database under four different price categories.
When it comes to plans under $20, ALDI Mobile is highly competitive, offering 3GB for $15 per recharge. Most other providers only offer 1 or 2GB for that kind of money.
ALDI is also a great choice in terms of data-per-dollar in the under $30 category, but not by the kind of margin as we saw in the under $20. While 20GB for $25 is a great deal from ALDI, other Telstra MVNOs offer similar kind of inclusions for the money. Take a look at operators like Mate, numobile, or even Boost Mobile which is powered by the full Telstra network, as opposed to the Telstra wholesale network. This gets you a bit of extra coverage in rural areas.
Once again, ALDI Mobile compares favourably to other Telstra powered providers when it comes to plans under $40.
By and large, ALDI Mobile prices are down there on the cheap end of the market and come with a lot of data. But compared to Woolworth's Mobile and other providers, the data-for-dollar value could be better. In fact, in today's deal-laden marketplace, you can sometimes even find better deal from one of the big three telcos - if you're shopping at the right time.
Of course, the value of an ALDI Mobile plan goes beyond the price of data per month. ALDI plans come with data rollover, which means that any data you don’t use over the course of one recharge period rolls over to the next, with no limit to the amount of gigs you can keep in the bank. You just need to make sure you recharge within 24 hours of expiry.
This is definitely handy for making your data go further and could even mean you can choose a lower plan level, depending on how you use your phone.
But note that Optus prepaid, Boost Mobile, Telstra prepaid and Woolworths Mobile also have data rollover. However, Boost only lets you roll over to the next recharge, and other providers only let you roll over to a specified data maximum.
ALDI Mobile plans are also among the cheapest prepaid plans that include international calls. With plans costing $25 or more you get unlimited calls to 15 selected countries. ALDI Mobile is not your only option to call overseas, of course. Most notably, some Boost Mobile plans come with unlimited calls to select countries.
ALDI Mobile coverage compared
ALDI Mobile is powered by the Telstra 4G wholesale network which covers 98.8% of the Australian population. While the full Telstra network covers a little more at 99.4%, only Australians in the most remote and regional areas would notice the difference.
As ALDI is on the wholesale network, it doesn’t get access to the fastest parts of the Telstra network, which Telstra refers to as 4GX. But most ALDI Mobile customers shouldn't notice the difference. The core 4G network can reach speeds of up to 100Mbps, or as fast as a top-tier NBN home connection. In real world use, you might expect speeds of between 20Mbps and 30Mbps, which is fast enough for anything you'd want to do with your phone today.
ALDI Mobile does not have access to Telstra's 5G coverage yet.
Coverage on what many consider to be Australia’s fastest and most reliable network is a strong tick in ALDI Mobile’s favour. But again ALDI is not the only prepaid provider offering Telstra coverage. Major prepaid competitor Boost Mobile can give customers access to the full Telstra network, while Woolworths mobile also offers access to the Telstra wholesale network.
Meanwhile, amaysim, Moose Mobile, Coles, and others offer full coverage on the Optus network which, covering 98.5% of the Australian population, would do just as well for many.
Here's a look at a few popular plans from other providers on the Telstra network:

ALDI Mobile international roaming compared
Many Australian prepaid providers don’t offer global roaming. Fortunately, ALDI Mobile is not one of them. Nevertheless, you might want to think twice before roaming with ALDI.
If you want to take your ALDI SIM overseas you’ll be charged pay-as-you-go rates. These may vary from country to country but for most popular destinations you’ll pay $1 per minute to make or receive calls, $0.50 per text message and $0.50 per MB. To put that in perspective, that’s $500 for a GB of data use. We’d recommend using a travel or local SIM if you want to take your phone overseas. Either that or keep your mobile data switched off.
Most of ALDI Mobile's major competitors charge similar prepaid international roaming rates, if they offer roaming at all. The exception is Optus prepaid, which offers $20 roaming data add-on packs. The packs come with 10GB for use over five days in selected international destinations.
ALDI Mobile compared on customer service
One area where ALDI Mobile falls down in comparison to other telcos is options for support. Options offered by other prepaid competitors like a chat service on the website and responsive social media accounts are notably absent. And of course there's no possibility of face-to-face support - we don't imagine the check-out attendants at ALDI supermarkets will be much help with your phone troubles!
That's not to say that ALDI Mobile doesn't offer support. Existing customers can log eSupport tickets and there's a toll-free number for customers that you can call until reasonably late into the evening on weekdays and weekends.
Because of the limited options, you might want to weigh up how much you think you'll need support. If you're a confident user and can't remember the last time you needed to call your telco, it might not be an issue.
On the other hand, because ALDI Mobile plans are prepaid, if you do have any problems it shouldn't be hard to leave!
