iPhone 14 Plus features
The iPhone 14 is a fairly iterative update, as far as new iPhone models are concerned and the 14 Plus has the same guts in a bigger body. It's still powered by the same A15 processor we found in the iPhone 13, but with additional GPU cores and RAM. The biggest change is the iPhone 14 Plus itself.
While the iPhone 14 camera upgrades aren't quite as exciting as what we've seen on the iPhone 14 Pro, the standard model features a faster ultra-wide camera and an improved selfie camera with autofocus for the first time.
Apple has also integrated safety features such as Crash Detection, and Emergency SOS using satellite. Crash Detection uses gyroscope and other sensors to track if you've been part of a car accident, automatically sending a push notification to your phone to allow you to call for help in one tap.
While the US models will be eSIM only, Australia's devices will still have a physical SIM slot.
The iPhone 14 Plus is available in five colours: midnight, starlight, red, blue, and purple.
iPhone 14 Plus design
The iPhone 14 Plus is a larger version of the iPhone 14, featuring a 6.7-inch display making it the same size as an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Despite the larger form factor, the iPhone 14 Plus doesn't have anything more in common with the Pro series. It still has the same 60Hz screen refresh rate, and Apple's classic notch.
iPhone 14 Plus camera
The iPhone 14 boasts two cameras on the back: an improved 12MP ultra-wide lens in addition to the standard 12MP lens. Plus the new selfie camera now has autofocus.
The emphasis has once again been on enhancing low-light photography; according to Apple, the new 12 MP main camera performs 49% better in low light than its predecessor. The new 12MP primary lens with larger sensors, pixels, and a quicker aperture is in part responsible for this.
Every lens in the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus has benefitted from computational photography enhancements, as is typical for Apple. With the introduction of the Photonic Engine software pipeline, all cameras now operate better in low light.
With the use of the new Action Mode, video stabilisation has also advanced. This more sophisticated stabilisation on video, which supports HDR Dolby Vision, creates smoother moving pictures and further imitates a gimbal without using one.
iPhone 14 Plus battery life
The iPhone 14 has a slightly larger battery than the iPhone 13 with the 14 Plus being larger once again. Apple says that it is it's best battery yet, estimating up to 26 hours of video playback, and 100 hours of audio playback. Seven, and 25 hours up from the iPhone 13 estimates.
We wouldn't be surprised if the iPhone 14 Plus' battery life was similar to what we found with the iPhone 13 Pro Max. In our testing, we found the iPhone 13 Pro Max could get over eight hours of screen time per charge, which translates to at least 1.5 days of usage.
iPhone 14 Plus processor
The iPhone 14 Plus is powered by the same A15 processor found in the iPhone 13 family. Performance should still be better, however, thanks to extra GPU cores and RAM.
We won't really know how this translates into practical performance until we get a chance to test out the new iPhones, but stay tuned.
iPhone 14 Plus 5G
As with every other recent iPhone, the iPhone 14 Plus has 5G connectivity.
WhistleOut's coverage checker tool has 5G coverage maps, making it easy to see whether you can get 5G. All you need to do is pop in your address when searching for a new phone plan. After you've done so and hit Search, you can jump straight to the coverage map by tapping See Coverage Map and then tapping Click To Activate Interactive Map.
This map will show you what kind of coverage you have in your area. 5G coverage is highlighted using the darkest shade of purple, but unticking 4G and 3G can help make it clearer. The drop down menu lets you choose between telcos.
Coverage maps are only approximate, only show outdoor coverage, and may be impacted by local conditions such as buildings.

iPhone 14 Plus plan providers
Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone are all ranging the iPhone 14 Plus. Here's a breakdown of the major benefits you can expect each provider to offer.
Telstra iPhone 14 Plus plans
Telstra iPhone plans are often the priciest on the Australian market, but they do come with a host of perks.
Telstra lets you pay your iPhone 14 off over 12 or 24 months, and all plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your cap, your data will simply be slowed to speeds of 1.5Mbps, which is still fast enough to stream video in SD. But speeds may be slower during peak times.
Optus iPhone 14 Plus plans
Optus iPhone plans come with solid data inclusions.
Higher-end Optus Samsung plans also come with unlimited international calls to selected destinations included with the plan.
All Optus plans are contract-free, and devices can be paid off across 12, 24, or 36 months.
In addition, all Optus postpaid plans are free from excess data charges. If you go over your allowance, you'll be slowed to 1.5Mbps rather than being billed $10 per gigabyte.
Vodafone iPhone 14 Plus plans
Vodafone iPhone plans may not come with the kinds of freebies and perks you can get from Optus or Telstra, but they have perks when it comes to bundling.
If you have a Vodafone mobile plan, you can get most of the telcos internet plans - NBN, 5G home internet, and 4G home internet - at a discounted rate.
Vodafone customers also save 5% on their total mobile bill for each postpaid mobile plan on their account after the first. This discount maxes out at 20%, and doesn't include handset repayments.
Vodafone postpaid plans are all free from excess data charges. When you go over your plan allowance, you'll be capped to 2Mbps and 10Mbps, depending on how much you're spending per month. The higher your bill, the higher your capped data speeds. Vodafone also has a truly unlimited plan, with one slight catch - you'll only get 30GB of data for hotspotting each month.
You'll also get access to Vodafone's famous $5 roaming, which is still easily the best way to travel with your Australian phone number.
