Disney Plus will be putting up the price of its Standard and Premium plans in Australia from February 19, just about one year after its previous price increase.
Here's what's changing:
- The Standard plan will increase from $13.99 per month to $15.99 per month and from $139.99 per year to $159.99 per year
- The Premium plan will increase from $17.99 per month to $20.99 per month and from $179.99 per year to $209.99 per year
For Disney Plus Standard, that's an increase of $2 per month or $20 per year on an annual plan (this is a slightly smaller increase than the one Disney Plus enacted last year).
The Premium plan is going up by $3 per month for monthly subscribers and by $30 per year for annual subscribers.
Existing subscribers should receive notification of updated pricing soon, but they won't be charged the new price until their first billing date from March 26 onward.
While the price increase last year came alongside the creation of the two new plans, nothing is changing in the short term with either plan. Extra member pricing will stay $7.99 per month. Disney Plus also isn't introducing its ad-supported tier in Australia yet.
Disney did recently announce that ESPN would be coming to Disney Plus to all Australian subscribers but the exact timeline is unknown, other than in the next few months.
Avoiding this year's price increase
There is a way to stave off the hit to your wallet for at least another 12 months. Until tomorrow, new and existing monthly subscribers can sign up for the $139.99 per year Standard plan or $179.99 per year Premium plan.
This is only really worth doing if you're already planning on staying subscribed to Disney Plus anyway.
By signing up for the Standard annual plan now you'll essentially save yourself $50 over a year than if you stayed on a monthly plan and took the price increase. Or, you'd save around $70 in the same scenario with the Premium plan.
You can sign up for an annual plan using the "View Plan" link in the table below.
