Vodafone prepaid mobile plans and recharges: How do they compare?

If you really want to manage your spending or eliminate the fear of bill shock entirely then prepaid plans are a solid choice. Also, prepaid SIM cards just offer great deals and a level of flexibility that you won’t get with postpaid plans. Vodafone prepaid is pretty similar to every other prepaid service out there. Pay the money, get the inclusions, and get an expiry term in which you can use them. The main difference is of course that Vodafone plans use the Vodafone network, but there are other inclusions you’ll get with Vodafone that you may not with other prepaid providers.

Long expiry

Prepaid plans with expiry periods longer than 30 days are categorised as long expiry plans. Vodafone offers long expiry plans as either 185 days (6 months) or 365 days (12 months). These recharges come with bulk data for a relatively low price that can last you all year depending on your data usage.

In exchange for lower prices, you won’t get as many extras as short expiry users but there are still interesting inclusions to consider.

International roaming on Vodafone prepaid

While Vodafone is well known for its $5 a day international roaming offer, prepaid users can’t take advantage.

Instead, the provider offers a Prepaid Roaming Add-on in increments of 1, 3 and 7 days. Each of these add-ons comes with a variation of the following. Note that the longer the expiry, the more fruitful the inclusions are.

Add-ons cost $5 per day, but the inclusions stack more generously than just 1:1. $5 for 1 day gets you 200MB to use and 30 texts, while $35 for 7 days gets 2GB and 300 texts, making it significantly better value.

Vodafone prepaid mobile coverage

Vodafone prepaid uses the same network as any other Vodafone plan does. The provider’s network covers 96% of the Australian population, making it the smallest in the country. 96% is nothing to be scoffed at but it does mean that rural and regional Aussies should double-check coverage maps before committing to anything. Even if you do have problems, prepaid is so flexible that you will only have to deal with it for about a month.
