Telstra has brought back its "endless data" plan, swapping its unlimited messaging for "no excess data charges". While Telstra was the first to widely launch an "unlimited data" plan in Australia (by about an hour), the telco found itself in hot water when the Federal Court ruled its advertisements were misleading and deceptive.
The marketing might have changed, but Telstra's plan is still the same: $69 per month will get you 40GB of highspeed 4G data on a SIM-only 12-month contract. If you manage to burn through all 40GB, you'll be capped to speeds of 1.5Mbps (which, notably, is still fast enough to stream video in standard definition). The plan also includes unlimited talk and text, but no international inclusions.
Today's news follows Telstra's strategy day last week where it signalled it would launch a "wide" new range of postpaid plans with no excess data charges in July. While the $69 endless data plan appears to currently be the only offering with no excess data charges in Telstra's current line-up, we’re guessing additional plans aren't too far off.
