OPPO's flagship phones have been exclusive to China for the past two years, but that's changed with the manufacturer's latest high-end device.
The Find X8 Pro is available locally from today, marking the first time OPPO has brought a Find X device to Australia since the Find X5 family in 2022.
JB Hi-Fi is the exclusive retailer for the Find X8 Pro, and is selling the device for $1,799. The device will be available in stores nationwide and online. Customers who buy the phone can redeem a bonus OPPO Pad Neo valued at $449.
OPPO's Head of Product Management Arne Herkelmann told WhistleOut that the company didn't launch the Find X6 and Find X7 globally due to a downturn in the smartphone market. OPPO forecasts that conditions are improving, however, hence why the Find X8 Pro will launch in Australia.
"People are actually interested again in buying new phones," said Herkelmann.
OPPO Australia's Managing Director Michael Tran added that the local launch of the Find X8 Pro coincides with the brand's 10th anniversary down under.
"Our first device we launched was the Find 7, consumers really resonate with [the series], and I'm glad we're able to bring this product back to market," said Tran.
In terms of the phone itself, the headlining feature is a camera configuration that includes four 50MP lenses. There’s naturally a primary lens and ultra-wide lens, which are joined by a 3x optical zoom lens and 6x optical zoom lens. There’s also a 32MP selfie camera.
OPPO has also added a button similar to the iPhone 16 family’s camera control. Dubbed the quick button, it can be used to open the camera and take photos. It also works as a tiny trackpad that you can scroll on to zoom in and out.
Because it’s the year of our lord 2024, there are naturally AI camera features. These include long-range AI zoom for up to 60x magnification, an upsampling tool to increase the resolution of photos, a tool for sharpening blurry images, and a tool for removing reflections.

Other key specifications for the Find X8 Pro include a 6.78-inch display, a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and an extra-large 5,910mAh battery with fast charging.
The phone also has all the premium trimmings you’d expect for a device in this price bracket, including IP68 water resistance, wireless charging, and eSIM support.
The Find X8 Pro will get five years of major operating system upgrades and six years of security updates. This is the longest software guarantee on an OPPO phone yet, but it does fall slightly short of the seven years that other Android flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S24 family and the Pixel 9 family now promise.
Locally, the Find X8 Pro is available in black or pearl white finish. Each pearl white variant features a unique pattern.
OPPO also launched a “standard” Find X8 model, but this won’t be coming to Australia. Tran told WhistleOut that this is because there's historically been more interest in Pro variants locally.
