Nokia’s new-ish Lumia 2520 Windows RT tablet will be available in Telstra stores from 13 May.

The telco will offer the 2520 on a range of tablet plans, starting from $60 per month, with a $25 device repayment cost matched with a $35 tablet plan with 4GB data.

Telstra will also sell the Lumia 2520 outright for $840. Customers can also pick up Nokia’s Power Keyboard accessory designed to work with the 2520, for $240.

Tablet times

As we mentioned earlier, the Lumia 2520 represents Nokia’s first foray into tablet territory since partnering up with Microsoft and its Windows Phone platform. Though the tablet market is relatively young, it is also tremendously congested, with devices running the gamut in size, specs and price.

Nokia’s tablet is definitely eye-catching, bringing much needed colour to store shelves packed with small, black, rectangular boxes.

Nokia’s (and Microsoft’s) decision to run Windows RT 8.1 on this tablet will be the make-or-break consideration for many tablet shoppers looking for something other than an iPad or a Samsung. Windows RT’s many limitations have been thoroughly catalogued since the introduction of the first Microsoft Surface, leading us to wonder whether this was the best option for the OS in this machine.

The Lumia 2520 benefits from some of the Windows experience, with a solid MS Office experience pre-loaded. There is also a copy of Accountright installed, which plugs into MYOB databases.

Nokia is hoping its tablet owners embrace photography too, with a 6.7-megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics. It unclear whether Nokia has ported the excellent Windows Phone camera app to Windows RT for the 2520 — an important part of Nokia’s photography strategy on phones.

Yes, you want a Power Keyboard

If you are planning on using the Lumia 2520 for work, you’ll want to check out the Power Keyboard accessory. Not only do you get a cover for the tablet and a keyboard for typing, but more importantly you get a 25% boost in battery capacity, with an extra 2027mAh battery built into the case.

You also get the benefit of two full-sized USB 2.0 ports, so you can mount USB drives and external storage, among other things.
