Which Telstra plans include 5G access

Telstra's approach to 5G can be a little bit confusing. Unlike with past network upgrades, not all customers will automatically have 5G connectivity at maximum speeds. Instead, Telstra is only granting full speed 5G access to customers with a high enough minimum monthly spend. Customers on cheaper plans will be cut get capped 5G speeds instead.

Telstra 5G on postpaid mobile plans

All of Telstra's Upfront mobile plans have 5G connectivity. Its cheapest option - the $58 per month "Basic" plan - is capped to speeds of 250Mbps. That's about a quarter of the maximum speeds 5G speeds on the Telstra network. Telstra's other two plans have uncapped 5G speeds:

Telstra 5G on mobile broadband

As with mobile plans, you'll need to be a Medium plan - valued at $55 per month - or better to get 5G connectivity on a Telstra mobile broadband plan. Customers on Telstra's small or extra small plan can only access 4G.

Telstra 5G on prepaid mobile broadband

As with prepaid mobile plans, Telstra prepaid mobile broadband plans do not currently have 5G. There are no providers on the Telstra network selling prepaid 5G mobile broadband plans.

What about Telstra MVNOs?

A few Telstra MVNOs - including Belong, ALDI Mobile, and Woolworths Mobile have 5G available on select plans. Belong's plans are speed capped to 100Mbps, while the other providers have a 250Mbps speed cap.
