TPG is slashing the price of its Fibre to the Basement (FTTB) plans by 50% for the first six months.
This puts the prices well below half the cost of TPG's own NBN plans.

The offer is available until withdrawn.
It's well worth trying out for six months if you have the option. For example, at present the cheapest NBN 50 plan available in WhistleOut's database is from Southern Phone. It costs $59 for the first 12 months before returning to the ongoing price of $79 per month.
If you were to sign up for TPG's FTTB 50 plan you'll pay $35 a month for the first six months, then $69.99 per month ongoing. Even with a year-long discount with Southern Phone, your wallet ends up $78 better off by choosing TPG's plan.
TPG's FTTB plans aren't available everywhere, with around 400,000 premises able to take advantage of the network. These premises are largely apartments in major metropolitan areas.
You can confirm availability by inputting your address on TPG's website.
It's worth noting that there's a $99.95 setup fee plus $10 delivery fee for the TPG FTTB modem. If you cancel or change plan speed in the first six months the discount will be forfeited. You can sign up to a six month contract and avoid the setup fee, however this is then charged as a break fee if you void your contract.
Speed upgrades in mid-2024 mean that TPG FTTB customers can get up to 500Mbps speeds on its FTTB Max plan – an option that remains out of reach for NBN FTTB customers. The fastest plan that can be ordered for NBN FTTB is an NBN 100 plan.
Customers who want faster than NBN 100 speeds, such as NBN 250 or NBN 1000 need to be at an address with an FTTP or HFC connection type.
Meanwhile, today the Australian government announced a $3 billion investment in NBN that will see all remaining Fibre to the Node (FTTN) premises upgraded to FTTP by the end of 2030.
