Yeedi Cube Robot Vacuum Review: The Verdict

The Yeedi Cube is a great value robovac thanks to its fully-featured base station. The vacuum performs well enough to complement your regular cleaning schedule

What we love
  • Auto-cleaning base station
  • A couple of clever design tweaks
  • Good price for the bundle
What could be improved
  • The mopping pad doesn't seem to clean very thoroughly
  • Struggles to mount some surfaces with small lips

$1,099

After reviewing robot vacuums for several years, I think back over the machines I’ve seen like the famous evolution of man image. The earliest robovacs were far simpler, with fewer 'smarts', and would navigate your home by bumping relentlessly into walls and furniture.

The Yeedi Cube sits somewhere beyond the middle rung on a spectrum of ‘dumb’ to ‘smart’ robot vacuums, just a few steps short of the best robovacs available today. Of course, the upside is that you won’t need to pay as much for a Yeedi Cube.

How much is the Yeedi Cube in Australia?

The Yeedi Cube retails for $1,099 in Australia, but we’ve seen discounted street prices as low as $799, which is a bargain for a vacuum cleaner that comes bundled with a mop-cleaning docking station.

By comparison, similar models from Ecovacs, Xioami, Roborock, and Eufy all retail for about the same price, between about $900 and $1,600. More advanced models sell for as much as $3,000.

Yeedi Cube: Design and features

There are few surprises in the design of the Yeedi Cube as it shares the same circular shape and size with the majority of other robovacs, but there are a couple of nice touches to note as well. Most robot vacuums come in either black or white, and Yeedi opts for the latter here, with the vacuum unit and base station mostly comprised of matte white plastic.

The size and shape the Yeedi Cube vacuum is exactly what we’d expect to see, but we’re pleased that the base station is smaller than others in the market. The base station will both empty the dust bin and clean the mopping pads for you, which is a great value convenience combo — these features tend to found in the base station of vacuums selling for twice the price.

The initial setup process for the Yeedi Cube is as simple as it is with any of the top-end models. Assembling the Yeedi Cube takes just a few minutes, and then the app will direct you through the steps to connect the Cube to your WiFi network and then start the automatic mapping process.

While the Yeedi Cube looks similar to most other robovacs, with two tiny tweaks that are worth sharing. Firstly, the clean water reservoir is mounted on the top of the vacuum, and has a generous 1-litre capacity. The water tank is transparent too, so you can check if it needs a top-up without having to pause the cleaning cycle and pull the unit apart.

The second tweak is the rubber handle which sits on the top of the water tank. It may sound like a silly feature to rave about, but I found it to be a welcome addition to the standard robovac design. This simple handle makes it easier to move the unit, so you can place it directly onto a spill requiring cleaning, and is arguably more hygienic than reaching under the machine to lift it.

Yeedi Cube: does it suck (or does it suck at sucking?)

On paper, the Yeedi Cube has the performance specs to rival the competition. The vacuum suction is rated at 5,100Pa at its maximum setting, and 4,300Pa when set to its default suction mode. The mop attachment is described as a ‘sonic mopping pad’ and vibrates about 2,500 times per minute, though I’ll admit that I found it hard to see this as it cleaned.

The Cube can differentiate between hard and carpeted surfaces, and the mopping pad lifts slightly when it detects carpets and rugs. This is a great feature and not something we expected to find in a mid-range vacuum. I found the Cube to be a bit too cautious with surfaces with a small step up, like rugs with a thicker pile. I suspect this is related to how much the Cube relies on its bumpers to navigate so that any obstacle higher than 5mm or so will depress the bumper and turn this robovac in a different direction.

In general, the performance of this vacuum was middle of the road; similar to robovacs released over the past few years, like the Ecovacs Deebot T9. The Yeedi Cube successfully collected most of the debris from the centre of the rooms it cleaned but struggled to get into the corners. To be fair, you could say the same about most of the top-tier robovacs too.

I’m less enthusiastic about the way the Cube mops the floors though. Yeedi opts for an older-style mopping pad that is dragged across the floor as it moves, leaving a damp smear behind it. Yeedi plugs its ‘sonic mopping’ feature, where the mopping pad vibrates quickly during use, sort of like a giant electric toothbrush. But as I’ve mentioned, I couldn’t see it clean any of the visible marks on my floor.

It is recommended that you don’t use any cleaning solution in the clean water chamber (to avoid gumming up the mopping system) so I feel like it struggles to clean the floors beyond collecting the finer particles of dust and dirt which the vacuum may have missed.

Yeedi Cube: Final Thoughts

The Yeedi Cube is a decent, mid-tier robovac with an auto-cleaning base station simlar to those we only expect in more expensive models, like the Ecovacs Deebot X2. It met our expectations in regards to cleaning performance but certainly didn’t surpass them. The Cube would make a wonderful cleaning companion if you’re happy to whip out your manual vacuum cleaner and a mop to finish the job every so often.
